The Story

When No One Was Looking is a deeply personal portrait capturing the silent strength of a Black child navigating a world that often sees but does not understand. Set against a vivid yellow backdrop, the work evokes resilience, contemplation, and emotional memory — an echo of Macanjy’s own childhood.

This piece is part of Silent Narrative: Echoes of the Unseen, a national solo exhibition that unveils untold stories of Black identity and emotional memory across Canada.
